Bug Jug

The bug jug is a 5-gallon (20-liter) polyethylene, spigot carboy outfitted with an airstone and air pump.  It is used as a brewing apparatus for the cultivation of liquid microbial inoculum.  It provides a simple, sanitary system which is easy to clean.  The spigot provides versatility for delivering small volumes to multiple locations.  The components of the bug jug system are available from several vendors.

Simple Grow-up Procedure

After 2.5 gallons of water are added to the bug jug, one ENVIROBREW® 30 is added to the water.  This will tie up residual chlorine which might be present.  Then the freeze-dried ENVIRONOC® microbial blend can be added.

Microbes + Nutrient + 2.5 gallons water + air  = > 1 x 109 cfu of microbial inoculum/ml

The growth from one 2.5-gallon grow-up produces fresh inoculum with more counts than 20 lbs of many dry inoculant powders!
