Our History

The Beginning

Biodyne® was founded in Sarasota, Florida in 1989.  Roughly translated, biodyne means "biological power".  The original focus was to harness the "biological power" of environmental inoculants for bioremediation.  The "flagship" Environoc® 101 product targeted petroleum hydrocarbons and was assembled from organisms that were isolated, identified, and evaluated in the laboratory.  Numerous treatability studies were performed in preparation for embarking on actual applications.  Biodyne personnel actively participated in many of the early applications to validate the efficacy of the products.  Nearly 16 years later, Environoc 101 continues to be a mainstay of Biodyne's stable of microbial blends.

The Early Years

Biodyne personnel have performed a number of microbial assessments and treatability studies for some very large companies.  This resulted in a continuing expansion of the number of capable microbial strains that were isolated and maintained.  Chlorinated hydrocarbon and pesticide remediation projects led to an interest in products for these applications and the Environoc 201 product was born.  A call for assistance in addressing the problem of grease accumulation in wastewater collection system lift stations led to the development of the Environoc 301 product.  It has proven effective not only in lift stations, but also in restaurant grease traps and septic tanks.

Today

Biodyne maintains over 150 strains of microbes in their culture library. The early products have continued to improve through infusion of more capable strains.  A deep seated interest in plants led to the pursuit of the Environoc 401 product.  Capable strains of microbes that can have a positive impact on the health and effectiveness of the plant rhizosphere were evaluated and assembled.  The resulting product has shown promising benefits as it gets wider usage.   It has also shown promise as a bioaugmentation product for wastewater applications containing high polymer content.  While investigating fungi for inclusion in the Environoc 401 product, a stand-alone fungal product was assembled.  This Environoc 501 product is geared to compost and high fiber applications.  It is also being used as an addition to some of the other products where conditions warrant.

The Future

After several years of active participation in many environmental microbiology projects utilizing the Environoc family of products, our emphasis is shifting.   Biodyne has spent the last few years training agents, engineers, consultants and large and small customers in the successful application of the Environoc products.  Continued expansion of use of the original core products is expected, while more time will be spent developing increased acceptance for the Environoc 401 and 501 products.
